I have previously pointed this issue to several manufacturers in China, but they didn't have any knowledge of Taper A and Taper B and couldn't understand my point. Only Chinese manufacturers use Tapered B for volume pots for volume control in the world. The volume control of A20a 2022 adopts the conventional volume pot, and I am worried about the gang error when the volume is turned down. SMSL AO200 / DA-9 / SA300 etc. use JRC's NJW1194 electronic volume, so there is no gang error. Also, by using NJW1194, you can use the EQ function and tone control built into the chip, but the A20a 2022 does not have these functions.Since I'm basically "throwing the book" of measurements at this device, we can see that certain characteristics are the result of the ESS DAC chip itself. For example the "hump" (THD and IMD) between -45 to -25dBFS or so, and the sinusoidal pattern of odd harmonic distortions when examined in very close detail with 0.1dB steps using a low-noise notch filter. I can't say for sure about the sound quality yet, but it is a very clear and high quality sound similar to AO200. I feel that the bass has become a little stronger. Weight ..........................................................................................3.3kg/7.28lbs Size ...........................................................................280x63x260mm (WxHxD) As we end off Part II with a detailed look at PCM fidelity, I can say that from an objective fidelity perspective, basically what I'm seeing is an ESS ES9038PRO-based DAC that's performing on par with the best devices available today as published here and on other audiophile objective measurement sources. The XLR 4.77Vrms output is clean with dynamic range of 130dB and 0dBFS THD+N better than -123dB. In a similar way, the RCA 2.35Vrms unbalanced output gives us an excellent THD+N of -120dB. On my more complex Triple-Tone signal, I'm seeing a TD+N of -118dB through the XLR and -111dB through the RCA which are again excellent.

SNR ..........................................................................................................116dB Notice that I've turned on the "Peak" tracing as well to capture the highest values across the 8-average readings. Not unusual to see some 60Hz mains hum with harmonics getting into the measurements with unbalanced connections. We're basically looking at -110dB RCA and -120dB XLR noise floor and distortions otherwise. You have the possibility to adjust the bass / treble, the amp also has some presets, I'm not a fan of it, I left it in "direct" mode. Connecting was easy/normal w my Samsung phone. Unfortunately this phone doesn't do Aptx HD, so I can't test that.Low pass cutoff frequency...................................................................70~200Hz Initial impressions are great. No noise that I can hear (disclaimer: I'm in my early 50s). It's driving these speakers with plenty of volume, and I haven't tried to really push it yet. At about 30 min of steady medium-high volume it's cool to the touch.

I tried to open the case to take pictures of the module, the PCB etc .. but unfortunately it is complicated to dismantle ...
